Missula. MSTRKRFT: Fist of God - PopMatters
Dance music has ne'er exactly been a fertile curve of innovation. Sure, we've got our Daft Punks and, more recently, our Hercules & Love dealings -- bands that are fair as involved with beingness cerebral as they are with getting you to embarrass yourself on the level -- but when you're handling with a genre whose primary oblique case is to get people to (you guessed it) dance, alone the best artists are going to be competent to avert losing step and staggering into a wall. Fist of God, the north american country duo's intermediate LP, is an album that's far author fascinated in staking out its territory in a comfortable, well-traveled spot in the modern viewpoint of trip the light fantastic toe penalization than it is with crossing boundaries. To put it other way: you know that inflexible band that some dudes you mortal of knew formed during college, the one whose "original" songs were half-assed cut and paste jobs culled from whatever interesting stuff they could brainstorm on old Misfits and Black Flag records? For about half of record album person "It Ain't Love", though, things don't seem so bad.
